Teak furniture is the best furniture for your home or yard but if you have never seen teak before perhaps you are concerned the furniture you want to buy is real teak furniture or not.

Since several woods can resemble to other types it makes people get a problem on straight identification of wood. However teak wood has special characteristics which differ with other woods.

There are not as many similar woods used in the furniture-making business.Teak wood is a very expensive wood so that teak furniture will have a higher priced than other furniture. Therefore, it is important that you know how to tell the difference between real teak furniture, and a fake, before you make a purchase.

The appearance of teak wood.

The first thing you have to know is the appearance of teak wood. Heartwood is dark golden-brown to dark golden-yellow to rich brown in color with darker chocolate-colored brown streaks. Sapwood is white to pale yellow. Texture is fairly coarse and uneven. Grain is straight, occasionally wavy.

Teak does not splinter.

Teak wood does not feel like other woods. It is a close-grained hardwood with high natural oil and rubber content. It is one of the hardest of all timbers. Once you put your hand on teak wood you will be able to tell the difference between teak and other wood types. Teak does not splinter. If you rub your hands across the surface of a piece of wood you should be able to quickly tell if it is a teak or not.

Teak has a very light fragrant smell

Teak contains silica, calcium, rubber and natural oil which release a distinct smell. You will smell a very light fragrant smell, coming from the wood. It’s an earthy smell, but one that is different from other freshly cut woods. Teak gets this smell from the oils that are heavily embedded in the wood.

I think all above is best way to know the characteristics of teak wood to make sure you are getting the real teak furniture. I am fairly sure that once you have seen teak furniture, you’ll be able to recognize it in the future.

Strongteak Furniture is one furniture manufacturer in Indonesia which sell real teak furniture with a wide variety of teak garden furniture products such as teak folding chair, Batavia chairs, sun lounger, Marlborough bench with affordable prices.
